Fatherhood in Academia: Challenges, Choices, and Change

Join us for an important conversation on fatherhood in academia!

As Mother’s Day approaches, it is also a moment to recognize the allies and partners who help make balance possible.

On May 5th at 14:00 CEST, yEFIS is hosting a panel discussion: Fatherhood in Academia: Challenges, Choices, and Change.

We will hear from six fathers in academia who are working to create environments where balancing work and family life is the norm, not the exception. Together, we will explore:

  • The challenges and taboos fathers face
  • Navigating institutional expectations and power structures
  • The role of allies in supporting equal parenting
  • How a new generation is reshaping academic culture

Speakers:

  • Prof. David Kent (Deputy Head of Department, University of York)
  • Dr. Darragh Duffy (Head of the Translational Immunology Unit, Institut Pasteur)
  • Dr. Tobias Reinberger (Postdoctoral Scientist, Institute of Cardiogenetics, University of Lübeck, Germany)
  • Dr. George Birchenough (Assistant Professor, University of Gothenburg)
  • Dr. Jonas Demeulemeester (Group Leader, Department of Oncology, KU Leuven, Belgium)
  • Donovan Flumens (PhD Student, University of Antwerp, Belgium)

It is inspiring to see this support for change, and we look forward to having you join us to extend the discussion.
